Workshops 8/28/11

I am available to writer’s groups to do the workshop listed below:

CHARACTER BUILDING WITH TONY AND PHIL
In order to create believable characters, an author needs to know what his characters believe. Often, in the midst of plotting, we find ourselves asking this question: What would this character have to believe to make him do that? In this course, Jax will look at characters beliefs through the tools given us by coaches Tony Robbins and Dr. Phil.

THE A, B, C’S OF ROMANTIC HEROES
While Alpha males are fabulous, there’s an entire world of hero types to choose from. In this workshop, Jax will present a variety of hero types. We’ll show you wounded heroes, boy-next-door heroes, dark and forbidding heroes, and take-charge heroes, just to name a few. Also, we’ll explore the sort of heroines that each of these men needs.

AGAINST THE CLOCK
In this workshop, Jax will share some tips for getting the work done and even upping your productivity. Topics will include scheduling your writing and goal setting, there’s no such thing as writer’s block and what happens when you’re stuck.

BRAIN SEX
When you know the physiological differences between the sexes (not those differences :o ) your characters will ring more true on the page. And in real life, well, you’ll never look at Mars and Venus the same way again. (This is a 2 hour workshop)

CONFLICT
Building conflict is one of the keys to great fiction. In this workshop you’ll learn how to create outstanding conflict and torment your characters into greatness.

DEEP POINT OF VIEW
In this workshop, Jax will show you the trick to helping your readers get into the skin of your characters. You’ll learn the techniques that have made Jax one of the best at writing emotion.

Who Are you Brainding?

Friends, this is a blog post from my friend and associate David Haines.  Since I could not have said it better, I asked him if I could repost it here.  Enjoy and let me know what you think.

I want to talk to you today about Branding.

More specifically, branding YOU.

You know when we get into Network Marketing we’re usually so excited because we’ve identified with a company or identified with a product so strongly that we want to let everyone know about it. And that’s fine, but you have to be careful that you don’t brand yourself as the company or the product.

For example I’ve seen people who are branding themselves as the iPhoneGuy or the VideoPhoneKing. Or they name themselves the name of the product itself. Bad news! Sometimes companies change or products are discontinued, and now you’ve spent a lot of time branding yourself to something that no longer exists.

Now, I don’t want you to take what I’m saying the wrong way here. It’s ok to promote your product or your company, but you don’t want people to identify YOU as your product or company. You don’t want to be known as the ExcelCommunications Guy. You want to be known as Your Name, who promotes Excel Communications.

Remember, this is still a relationship business. Don’t lose sight of that. Your product can be the most amazing thing since the Pet Rock, but in the end it’s just a product and they come and go. You want people to join you because you’re the kind of person they want to be a partner with.

Keep this in mind; most women don’t get married because of the ring… Well, some do, but it’s not a very good relationship and it usually ends early. On the other hand, if they get married based upon the relationship, there’s a better chance they’ll stay together.

It’s the same with Distributors. We want to build teams that are going to stick together through thick and thin, because if God forbid something happens to your company, you want to be able to move wherever you decide to go as a team.

And that’s what we’re trying to teach you at Mentoring for Free. Yeah, the 5 Pillars are important, the Business Model is important, but the bottom line is; Business is Business. And the Company itself is a business. Businesses change, products change, comp plans change. Policies and Procedures change, but the one thing that you want to remain constant is You and your relationship with your team and You and your relationship with your customers and peers.

You can only do that by branding yourself as YOU, not some product or company.

You know, I tell you this stuff because I’ve been there. Before I found Mentoring For Free I tried so many things, but never once did I try them as myself. I tried to hide behind whatever product I was promoting or website I built. I had a website called ineedtoberich.com and I used to be an affiliate for Robert Kiyosaki selling those Cash flow games and Rich Dad books and products. But nobody knew my name.

When my mentor Emmanuel first contacted me, it was on MySpace and I was Ineedtoberich. I wasn’t David Haines. I saved the emails he used to send me where he would start the letter by saying, hello friend. It’s pretty comical when I look back at them. We’re both green, so it took us 3 emails back and forth before Emmanuel had the guts to ask me my name.

And one of the scariest things I had to do when I started in Network Marketing was to put myself out there as ME. I was afraid to let anyone know my name. I don’t know why, but I just was. And Oh My God, build relationships with people? Blasphemy! But I knew it had to be done. What I had been doing all those years before didn’t work, and I probably tried every way I could without actually connecting with people.

Emmanuel and I have a running joke that my wife Tianne cringes every time I say it, but I always joke with Emmanuel that “They will know my name!” And although it’s a joke, it’s kind of my Mantra. It had to be extreme enough for me to take it seriously enough to act on it. One of the commitments I made to him when I started this process was that I was going to totally change everything I was doing and everything that I was. So this Mantra fit quite well. And I have just enough Red in me to enjoy it a little bit.

So I’ve tried really hard the last 3 years to brand myself as Me, and position myself as someone people could come to. People come to me to learn about relationship building and to learn about Branding and about social media

A big part of that branding was to improve myself. I knew that in order to lead others, I had to learn how to lead, but most importantly to get out of my own way. I had to become the person people wanted to be in business with. And I did that through the Mental Cleanse. I worked on myself just as hard as I worked on my brand.

My biggest advice to you is to really take the time to work on a marketing strategy to brand You.

Become the person that people follow because they know you can help them. They will follow you because you can care about them. What’s that quote from John Maxwell, “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” And that’s so true. Are you really helping them because you want them to succeed, or because you want them to help you succeed?

My agenda when I started this process 3 years ago was to get people in my business because I wanted them to do all the work. Find 5 or 6 people and let them build it! And you know what? People felt that, and I didn’t sponsor my first person into the business for 10 months, and he stayed for 2 months and quit. My second person stayed for 3 months and quit. My 3rd person was my son and he never really did anything. Then I received what I thought was the greatest gift ever. Our team was following the tap-rooting theory of building a team, and because of that, my upline reorganized and threw about 30 people in my downline along my taproot.

If you don’t know what a taproot is, open up Google and do a search, it’s a method of building the various legs in your organization by placing people at the bottom of the leg and helping them do the same. Anyway, like I said, one day I woke up and went from 3 people to 33. I was the happiest guy on earth!

But you know what? I still wasn’t the guy people wanted to follow. I look at it like the people that win the lottery but have no idea how to manage money. 99% are back to the same place they were financially after a year, than they were before they won the lottery. And you know what? The same thing happened to me. Not one of those 30 people is active today.

It was a very hard lesson to learn. But it did teach me that I needed to fix myself. And I’m working my ass off to do that to this day. I’m not anywhere that I want to be yet, but I continually try to improve every day and I still live by my mantra of “They will know my name!” Tianne just rolled her eyes!

But in all seriousness, help people know who you are. Be YOU. That’s the one thing that nobody can ever take away from you.

To Your Success Because Your Success Matters!

Why MLM Duplication Doesn’t Work – From Tom ‘Big Al’ Schreiter

‘Big Al’ says:

“I have an opinion on duplication that makes people mad, especially those who teach duplication. You don’t have to agree with this opinion, but here goes.

Why duplication doesn’t work:

* Mary has a million-dollar smile. Whenever she smiles, people want to talk to her, and she gets a chance to share her business. But not everyone in Mary’s downline has this amazing smile. So should I tell Mary not to smile since her amazing smile can’t be duplicated by everyone in her downline?

* Joe hands out audio CDs, and then puts the prospect on a three-way call with his upline. But, some of Joe’s downline are hearing-impaired, and so are their prospects. So should I tell Joe not to use this method since it can’t be duplicated by everyone in his downline?

* Let’s say my sponsor is Alice. Her natural market is recruiting at the women’s Rotary Club. Can I duplicate that? No. I’d need a sex change operation. Should Alice not use her natural market? Of course she should. That’s her strength.

* Ella is a doctor. She loves to share her company’s products with her patients. So should I tell Ella not to share her products with her patients since it can’t be duplicated by everyone in her downline?

* John has an unusually large extended family and plenty of local relatives. So should I tell John not to share his opportunity with his relatives since not everyone in his downline is fortunate enough to have as many relatives?

* My friend Charles sells mailing lists. He has 10,000 customers who trust him. What if I sponsor Charles and say this, “Charles, don’t go to your natural market. It’s not duplicable. No one else has 10,000 good customers. Instead, use my system of sitting with your neighbor with a flip chart.” Charles would laugh in my face.

* Bill makes a driving mistake and hits another car. The owner suffers a neck injury, but Bill generously gives him some magic vitamins. The other driver recovers and becomes Bill’s best leader. Because this is how Bill found his best leader, Bill insists his downline duplicate his methods. Insane.

I hate the telephone, but I have loads of people who use it exclusively. I have people who use ads, use social media, leads services, party plans, breakfast clubs, referrals and many, many other ways to meet their prospects, and they all work!

Usually duplication advocates have another agenda such as selling you their duplication materials.

My philosophy is this:

Duplicate the results, not the activity.

Give people the freedom to choose the most pleasant activity for them that gets the job done. For some people, it is talking over a cup of coffee. Others enjoy talking on the telephone.

Now, if their way isn’t getting the job done, they have a choice.

  1. Learn the skills to make their preferred method work, or …
  2. Choose a different way to build the business.

We want to duplicate results (sponsoring and building leaders).  We don’t need to duplicate unique activities to get these results.”

MLM Minute: The Hidden Costs of MLM

Did you know the Hidden costs in your MLM Company before you joined? Most of us didn’t. Because we didn’t know to ask.

In many Network Marketing companies, the focus is not on customers buying their products. Their focus is selling distributor kits and brochures & books & CDs and DVDs to their distributors. Many distributors buy 100s or even 1000s of tapes at a time to use in mailings. Even in quantity, some of these companies charged reps $2 or $3 each for tapes that cost 20¢ to duplicate!

Then, there’s the monthly charge for your company website. And a fee for the back office. And pretty soon, they’ve $39.95ed you to death and you quit the business. They making a killing on the backs of their reps!

So if you’re considering joining a MLM company, this is something you’ll want to find out before you sign on the dotted line.

MLM Minute: Best Product Training in 15 Words

Often when new folks join your team, they go into a frenzy of study trying to become an expert at the company’s product line. Since the name of the game in Network Marketing is duplication, you need to question if this expert status is duplicatable and if you even want it to be.

Of course it’s duplicatable if you have a product training module for newly sponsored distributors. But what company has that? And why would you want to? Doesn’t that become another intimidation factor for the new folks looking on – heck I could never do that.

Here’s how I train my team on the products. 15 Words.

Ready?   Here they are: Try it. You might like it. If you don’t, it has a money-back guarantee.   Now, of course this only works of your company does have a money-back guarantee. But if it does, then what could be easier.

Dale Calvert – on working two MLM’s

Dale Calvert of www.mlmhelp.com says this …

QUESTION:  You hear so much about “multiple streams” of income, when should network marketers attempt to diversify their income ?

ANSWER:  This depends on the person. In general this is my opinion.

Most network marketers who are talking about multiple streams of income and attempting to work multiple companies, have never made big income anywhere. They really don’t understand the difference between network marketing and affiliate marketing.

In 30 years I cannot name 1 person I have ever met who was making $10,000+ a month in two different companies working them at the same time!

You should never attempt to create multiple streams of income from multiple MLM programs under any circumstance.

Network marketing is about residual wealth building. It is not about creating multiple $100 checks, that is affiliate marketing.  Network marketing is the most challenging, but most rewarding business model. Leaders must be focused and dedicated to their opportunity, their company and their team. If they can’t find a company they can dedicate themselves to then they need to find a new one.

My advice to all network marketers is to don’t even think about trying to create another income stream until you have mastered the skill sets and mindsets it takes in network marketing and you get your income to a full-time level.

MLM Tips: How to learn the Skills

Success in Network Marketing is about learning just two skills.  Okay, that might be a bit of a deceptive sentence.  Tru-ish. I’ll explain.

Remember back to the day you signed up in your Network Marketing business.  The possibilities were laid out before you like a yellow-brick road.  Glinda, the Good Witch, waved her magic wand.  And, in a whirl of sparkles, with a voice of Sweetness and Light, pointed the way to the Emerald City.  All you had to do was step on the road to Success and you would reach the ultimate goal, riches beyond your wildest dreams. MLM Tips – Self-talk for a New Year

Napoleon Hill, in his book “Think and Grow Rich” has much to say about self talk.  “The price of ability to influence your subconscious mind is everlasting persistence.”  Yup, there’s the Slight Edge again.

We live in an instant world and we want instant results.  We want our Network Marketing business to take off instantly and effortlessly and bring in grand money right away.  Doesn’t work that way.  The Heavy Hitters in MLM will tell you it does, but they’re lying to you.

The same with affirmations.  If we’re going to be successful, Hill reminds us that we must create the right self-talk (affirmations/afformations) and persist until thing we’re affirming makes it into the material world.

I’ve had trouble with this in the past.  But it’s time now – at the beginning of 2012 – to make some changes.

One of them will be in the self-talk arena.

Want to join me?

Get with your mentor and create some good self talk.   Borrow someone else’s if you have to.  My mentor’s self talk is free for the taking: I am having fun building a large, very profitable, high retention organization quickly and easily with education and team work.

That’s a great starting place.

Here are a couple of books you might look through: “The Don’t Sweat Affirmations” and “The Great Little Book of Afformations.”

What’s the difference between and affirmation and an afformation?  Well the difference lies in the way the self-talk is worded.  The proponents of afformations claim that wording your self-talk in a question will get by the believability alarms set up in your mind and that your mind will immediately begin to work on these statement.  The believability alarm?  You know, that little voice that says “yeah, right, that’ll never happen.”

Here’s an example of both an affirmation and afformation.  It’s a subtle difference.
Affirmation: I am always in the right place at the right time doing the right thing.  (I like this one.)
Afformation: Why am I always in the right place at the right time doing the right thing?

Once you have a few self-talk statements that you’re happy with (don’t take too long nit-picking them to death), then persistence is the key.  Say them every day, maybe even 100 times a day.  Put them on index cards in your car to say at stop-lights or in heavy traffic.  Record them onto your iPod and listen to them as you exercise.  Whatever you do: Don’t quit.

I wish you dreams coming true in 2012.  Let’s work together to learn the skills to become successful in Network Marketing.

MLM Tips – Finding the key to saving years of failure and frustration

It’s the best thing I ever did in MLM.

It was first truly duplicatable system I ever experienced.  And in many years of many companies, this is a pretty remarkable statement.

I was frustrated and ready to toss in the towel.  But I SO believed in the network marketing model.

I had no friends left, my family didn’t want to hear it any more, and when my trusted upline suggested a “system” that included spamming people, I was ready for something that fit in the “do unto others” model.

Then I downloaded the ebook, met some mentors who didn’t push their company on me AT ALL.  I was actually suspicious.  Can you imagine that?  That’s a horrible commentary on what some people have done to Network Marketing.

So, if you’re looking….  at least check out the ebook.  Stay in your company and learn for free.  No catch.

MLM Tips – People are People, Not Numbers

My thanks to my friend and mentor Soren Egstrup for this wonderful post.

Truth: People are people – not numbers. They have goals, dreams and desires. They are mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grandmothers, and grandfather’s to someone that loves them. They are not a number, but real people.

I’ve heard him called The White Knight of Network Marketing, says Richard Dennis MLM in his Success Story

If you treat them like a number, I promise you: you have NO future in network marketing.

This lie teaches people to be a recruiter, not a sponsor. Recruit, recruit, recruit. Numbers, numbers, numbers. Lies, lies, lies.

“In Less Than 4 Months After Starting With Mentoring For Free, We Made Diamond In Our Company” tell Marcello Lisi in his MLM Success Story

A recruiter never knows their personally sponsored people’s “WHY.” Or their dreams, goals, or spouse’s or children’s names. It’s only about numbers.

To succeed long-term, you need to become a mentor with a servant’s heart. When you do, people will ask you to PLEASE sponsor them into your business.

Ever wonder why you get so many “NO”s? Take a look at … The Free EBook Success In 10 Steps
